Roha is a football project that was formed by Tamire Teferra, who is a football coach, on March of 2012, with his passion for football. Tamire organized a youth group of 30 boys, in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia to teach them how to be disciplined, responsible and have team work. Although, it is started as project, Roha is envisaged to grow into the first private football academy that targets both young boys and girls in Ethiopia.
To establish a football academy to make a difference in the lives of very young people by providing them the chance to grow into professional football player which feeds into the Ethiopian national team as well as the premier league clubs.
Roha football project seeks to provide the best possible learning environment and overall experience for young people in our programs through its relentless commitment to excellence and by demanding the highest standards of conduct. Safety and well-being of Roha players is the highest priority for all Roha coaches and staff. Other core values include personal improvement, enjoyment of the game, the pursuit of excellence, honesty, integrity, and supporting our community. We strive to assist our players and staff in becoming better individuals on and off the football field. Our aim is to develop creative, confident, and smart soccer players in a fun and safe environment.
To build a facility that provides tutoring and football camps. By doing so, the team players will have more of a chance to pass their classes as well as have positive influences constantly around them. We also involve the parents as much as possible so they can make sure that their child is focused at home as much as they are away from home.
To provide access to the team players to accomplish the goal that are required to stay on the team.
To produce competitive skilled football players to the national team and various clubs.
We strive for our players to have:
Outstanding character
Highly developed competitive instincts
Technical excellence
Very advanced speed of play
Instantaneous transition
Excellent levels of fitness
Excellent movement off the ball
The ability to defend well individually and in groups
Advanced levels of tactical awareness
Currently the project trains 40 young boys, however only 30 of them benefit from full project package. The project could not extend full support to the lately joined boys mainly due to financial constraints.
To be part of team Roha, each player must have passing grades in school and have exceptional character on the field. Those who do not keep this promise to the team will not be able to participate. Many of these young boys come from a disadvantaged family which in some cases would mean that the children would have to help as much as they can to provide for the family.
The project invites young people up to the age of 12 years on their first sign up. The parents/guardians have to sign a 5 years training contract on behalf of the trainee. The purpose of making the 5 years agreement mandatory is, to give enough time to shape and develop the trainees into a professional level.
